Van Gogh's Fruit Shop

If you’re anything like me, you have a deep appreciation for art and the great artists of the past. (I’ve spent about half an hour walking around an art gallery).

Fortunately for you and I, it did not take an expert to recognise this common theme: fruit and veg. For whatever reason, many great artists valued a healthy and balanced diet and they wanted you to know. Such showoffs… At least back then you had to paint it I guess, nowadays we’ve got Instagram for that.

But anyways, for the part that you came here for:

I have become keenly aware of a seemingly obvious and yet surprisingly untapped gap in the market.

A fruit and veg store that sells produce specifically for the use in art. Be it painting, drawing, or even sculpting (though I do believe there’s a fine line between playing with your food and art).

Picture this… you’re an artist going around the fruit aisle looking for the perfect apple for your next painting. You more or less know what type of emotion you are trying to evoke with this glorious piece of vitamin C. But that ain’t the hard part. That’s finding the right apple.

And so, you go around picking up each apple, examining them one-by-one. But that’s ok, because you are on a quest. However, the lady standing next you just scrapped apples off her shopping list due to you damn well groping all of them. And so, this can get quite awkward.

Truth be told, this isn’t a new problem. Throughout time, there have been people that have recognised the importance of a safe place for artists to come together and do what artists do best. Yet we’ve forgotten about the fruit shop.

Now, it can be quite easy to talk ourselves out of a good idea. I know what you’re thinking, how do I, someone who maybe hasn’t spent 30 minutes walking around an art gallery, know what type of apples I should stock. Let alone the pears…

The beauty here is that art is subjective. So any old apple will do.

Same goes for the pears.
